Looking for great learning web sites for your kids? Look no further. K5 Learning constantly searches for and finds sites we believe will engage and teach your kids new things. So, keep coming back for more reviews.
We have another university-created web site to tell you about. You’ve heard about our enthusiasm for MIT’s Scratch. This time we’ve found Web Adventures, created by Rice University.
If your child likes science, they will love the science adventures created by these academics. There are five sections to this site: cool science careers, Med Myst, CSI: the experience, Reconstructors and NSquad.
So far we’ve had the chance to explore the cool science careers, CSI sections and MedMyst. I would say, on the whole, the site is aimed at middle school and high school students, the topics they cover certainly are made for an older audience.
The cool science section gives students an insight to careers in science. There’s a questionnaire to find out which careers best match their interests and there are five virtual careers students can try out activities for.
CSI: the experience is all about forensic science. It’s really well laid out and parents can go into the teacher area to print out handouts to go with the activities. There are four cases that students can work to solve.
MedMyst covers infectious disease breakouts. In this game students work with the N-Squad forensic scientists to solve an alcohol-related crime. As they go through the game students learn about the effects of alcohol on the digestive, circulatory and nervous systems.
The games are very well put together and packed full of science.
