We have added two new sections of worksheets to our grade 4 vocabulary worksheets page. The first section deals with Latin and Greek root words in a new prefix and suffix are of study. The second section covers idioms, proverbs, similes and metaphors.
Here’s an overview of our new worksheets:
Prefix and suffix words
Students are asked to write prefix and suffix words based on Latin and Greek root words.
Dissect the words
In these worksheets, students are asked to write the meanings of a prefix or a suffix, as well as the meaning of a root word. They then have to combine the two and write the meaning of that new word.
Define the words
From a sample of three similar words, the Greek or Latin root word needs to be identified. Students then need to use their understanding of the root word to work out the meaning of each of the three words.
Similes
Using a word bank, each of the simile sentences need to be completed.
Similes and metaphors
Students are asked to determine if each sentence is a simile or a metaphor.
Metaphors
These worksheets ask for an explanation of each metaphor.
Proverbs or idioms
Similar to the similes and metaphor worksheets, students have to mark each sentence as a proverb or an idiom.
Proverbs
A word bank is provided to help students complete each proverb sentence.
