In a previous post, we wrote about the importance of rhyming in learning to read.
We also believe rhyming is important for kids in learning to write. To help them write rhymes, we thought a list of rhyming words would be useful. We created this list of rhyming words for students to use as a reference when they are writing those kinds of pieces. It’s by no means a comprehensive list of rhyming words, but it’s a good start.
Why is rhyming important to learning to write?
Rhyming can help children understand that words that share common sounds often share common letter sequences.
For example:
Hand rhymes with land and sand.
Rhyming can also help children understand that words that share common sounds can have different letter sequences.
For example:
Gate rhymes with weight and straight.

This list of rhyming words can be printed and used as a guide for students looking for inspiration when writing poems, limericks and rhymes.
