In kindergarten and grade 1, kids learn to count numbers, starting with the recognition of numbers and their values, to skip counting by the end of grade 1.
To help your grade 1 kids practice counting numbers we’ve created a page of worksheets dedicated to everything they need to know about counting by the end of grade 1. Let’s take you on a tour of the worksheets.
Numbers as words
Our first set of worksheets has students match their numbers to their written words; for example – 8 – eight.
Using pictures to count
There are two sets of worksheets, where students use pictures to work out the numbers. In this first set, students are asked to circle the number of objects to match the number:
In this second set, the work is reversed. Students have to count objects and write down how many there are.
Counting numbers
There’s a series of three worksheets in this section: counting 1-20, counting 1-30 and counting 1-50.
Skip counting
In grade 1, students work on skip counting by 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s and 10s. We have created worksheets for all these categories.
Number charts
There’s a whole section of number charts that start with full to less empty counting from 1 to 100, then charts counting by 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s and 10s.
Counting backwards
We have created three series of worksheets on counting backwards: by 1s, by 2s and by 5s.
Identify even and odd numbers
Our final set of worksheets ask students to work out if a number is even or odd. There are worksheets on the numbers 1-20, 1-100 and 1-1,000, making it increasingly harder for students for practice.
We hope these worksheets help your kids master counting numbers.
