One of the first things our daughter learned at computer studies in Kindergarten was to use drawing software. We installed the same program on our computer at home and she became very proficient very quickly.
I thought perhaps our readers may be looking for drawing programs for their own kids, so I’ve spent a bit of time looking for free and easy to use drawing tools. Here’s my list.
TuxPaint is the free drawing program that our daughter uses. We like the fat that you download it and it sits on your hard drive, so she does not have to go online to get to her current drawings or to create new ones. The program is packed full of drawing features and fun sound effects bound to keep your child engaged for hours.
You’d almost expect Crayola to provide a free drawing tool and you won’t be disappointed. Crayola's online drawing canvas provides kids with a blank canvas on which they can draw using virtual markers, crayons, pencils, and paints. Drawings cannot be saved online, but they can be printed. Create & Color provides templates for creating custom coloring pages. You can pick a background template and modify it by adding speech bubbles and pictures.
In addition to a free online drawing tool, Coloring 4 All also offers free printable coloring pages, customizable online jigsaw puzzles and dot to dot pages – hours of fun for any young child.
Finally a tool for those of you with Android devices. A nice little app for the aspiring artist, How to Draw Cartoons Animals is a free Android app that offers seventy simple step-by-step directions for drawing cartoon animals. You don’t draw the cartoons on the app, it provides directions for your child to draw on paper.
Happy drawing!
