Some of these words are really tough as they have so many meanings. Take ‘over’, for example. There are an astounding 18 meanings:
- above in position; higher than
- across to the other side of
- on top of, so as to cover
- throughout; across
- in the time of; during
- on the subject of
- across a space
- so as to cover
- to this or that place
- to the side
- across the edge of and down
- about; concerning
- once again; again
- down and to the side; down
- more than
- finished; done
- a prefix that means "too much”
- a prefix that means "above," "across," or "superior”
