K5 Website Report Card: Tumblebooks.com
About Tumblebooks.com
Tumblebooks.com is an online library of 300+ animated, talking picture books designed to ignite a passion for reading and build vocabulary in k-7 kids. The picture books and chapter books found here are all current best-sellers and popular classics.
Features
Tumblebooks are regular picture books, chapter books and graphic novels that are animated and narrated for kids to read along. Pictures and words appear onscreen and text is highlighted as the narrator reads the book aloud. Older readers can turn off the sound to read on their own. If they encounter a word they don’t know they can click to have the word pronounced for them.
The site includes over 300 “tumblebooks” and associated teacher resources – lessons plans, multiple choice “Tumblequizzes”, games and puzzles. A small selection of Spanish and French texts is included as well. The book collection is searchable by author, title, grade level, AR level or Lexile reading level. Unfortunately, tumblebooks.com is not available for home subscription. Access is purchased by a school or public library (at rates starting at $499/yr). They then issue user names and passwords to students who can log on from school or home.
K5 Learning Thinks
We’re excited about this site! My 2nd grade daughter was captivated by it – as any k-5 child would be! Teachers will love the resource library and its integration with the Accelerated Reader program. Tumblebooks.com is a great tool for all developing readers, but it is especially well-suited for emergent, reluctant or ESL readers! If you’d like access for your child, contact your local school or public library to suggest they subscribe to tumblebooks.com.
